The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are a group of heritable connective tissue disorders characterized by joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility and tissue fragility. There are 13 genetic sub-types and one for which a genetic basis has not been found (hEDS). Other connective tissue disorders, like Marfan Syndrome, share similar features. Chiropractors are uniquely positioned to play a role in identifying and managing EDS, joint hypermobility, and other heritable connective tissue disorders. They should also be aware of specific precautions to take with this patient population.
Being able to recognize, assess, treat, and refer for multidisciplinary care is imperative for best patient outcomes. This seminar will provide a more in-depth look into the topics related to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome that Dr. Lasko presented at our July 27 event, and will also expand into other connective tissue disorders and related topics.
About Dr. Lasko:
Kevin Lasko, DC is a Chiropractic Neurologist based in Quarryville, PA. He specializes in Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and related conditions including autonomic dysfunction, movement disorders, and cervical spine instability. Dr. Lasko is an International Ehlers Danlos Society Project ECHO Presenter, as well as a Chiari Syringomyelia Foundation Lecturer in 2018 and a Chiari Syringomyelia Foundation Medical Honoree in 2019. Dr. Lasko will give a 4-hour presentation on topics including dysautonomia, EDS spinal manifestations, diagnosing and treating proprioceptive issues, imaging, and chiropractic treatment approaches.

Angela Shepard, MD, MPH worked as a Preventative Medicine Specialist in Hopkinton, NH, founding True Health NH, a preventative and functional medicine practice for patients with complex chronic medical conditions. She served for three years as the President of the New Hampshire Rare Disorders Association. Dr. Shepard will provide a 4-hour presentation on topics including EDS diagnosis, related hypermobility disorders, EDS pathophysiology, pain, fatigue, joint instability, and injury.
